Dhummo Breathing
by Amir Fatir
In Tibetan, Dhummo is spelled Gtumo and means “ brave female”. The brave female is kundalini herself, the force that comprises and enlivens the universe.
Breathe in to a count of 4.
Hold the breath while bringing your chin down to the nape of the neck ( jalandhara mudra), tightening the perineum and anus (mulabandha) for 16 seconds.
Pull the lower abdomen in and up (uddiyana bandha) and then release the chin lock and mulabandha.
Exhale for a count of 8.
Repeat the process.People with hypertension are advised not to perform Dhummo. They should use Zazen breathing instead. Dhummo heats up the body and causes kundalini to move up the spine. Dhummo should be done about 7 times for beginners and gradually build from these. It is the basis of waking trance and Men Ab meditation and breathing.
